West London Film Studios Recognised by BBC News for Greener Film Industry Leadership
West London Film Studios (WLFS) was recently featured on BBC News London, highlighting the studio’s role in supporting a greener future for the UK film and television industry.
As part of the feature, a BBC News reporter visited West London Film Studios new built, filming across its studio stages, Gas substation, other facilities, and conducted an on-site interview with Frank Khalid, Founder and Director of WLFS. The segment explored the environmental impact of film production and the steps studios can take to reduce their carbon foot print.
During the BBC London News bulletin, the news presenter introduced West London Film Studios as a great initiative helping to make the British film industry greener, before referring viewers to a short documentary and interview filmed on site, presented by BBC news presenter Asad Ahmad.
Putting Energy Use Into Perspective
In the BBC documentary segment, Asad Ahmad explained the scale of energy demand involved in film production by comparing the electricity used by a single film production to that of hundreds of homes, helping viewers understand why energy efficiency and infrastructure investment are critical for the industry.
This comparison highlighted the importance of studios taking responsibility for how power is generated, managed, and consumed — and why long-term solutions are essential if the industry is to become greener.
BBC Visit Highlights WLFS’s Practical Approach
The BBC feature focused on WLFS’s investment-led approach to sustainability, showing how long-term infrastructure decisions can support lower environmental impact while maintaining the demands of large-scale productions.
Speaking during the interview, Frank Khalid emphasised the responsibility studios have to lead change within the industry, and the need to build facilities that are fit for the future of British film and television.
National Recognition for a Greener Studio Vision
The BBC News London coverage marks an important moment for West London Film Studios, reflecting growing recognition of its efforts to support a more responsible and greener screen industry.
