Leading the Charge for a Greener Film Industry

Enhanced Operational
Resilience

At West London Film Studios, sustainability drives every decision we make. We’re proud to be the first UK film studio with an on-site power station, generating 3MW of low-carbon electricity through innovative Combined Heat and Power (CHP) technology—dramatically cutting emissions and energy costs.

Our green infrastructure means no diesel generators, no idling, and no downtime—even during local power outages. Productions stay on schedule while reducing their environmental impact.

We also go beyond power: from a unique studio rainforest zone that promotes biodiversity to robust recycling and waste management, every detail supports a cleaner, greener future.

By choosing WLFS, productions not only gain energy resilience and cost efficiency—they also align with modern sustainability standards, strengthen their public image, and simplify access to green certifications like BFI’s Green Mark.

Our Gas
Substation

Producing our own electricity has minimized our reliance on external power sources, reducing the risk of downtime due to grid instability. This autonomy has enhanced our production scheduling reliability, operational efficiency, and sustainability. In summary, the integration of the gas substation has fortified WLFS's operational resilience, advanced our sustainability objectives, and streamlined energy management, collectively adding substantial value to our business beyond financial considerations.

West London Film Studios
Beehives

At West London Film Studios, becoming greener isn’t just a goal — it’s part of how we operate every day. One of our most meaningful green initiatives can be found quietly at work in our green spaces: the WLFS beehives.

Installed in partnership with Flow Hive UK, a company known for its environmentally responsible practices, the beehives support local biodiversity and play an important role in the pollination process, helping surrounding plants and green areas to thrive. It’s a simple but powerful way of giving back to the environment while making our studio grounds more sustainable.

The honey produced at WLFS is not for commercial sale. Instead, it is shared as a symbol of good environmental practice, encouraging awareness of how small actions can create positive change. It reflects our belief that a greener film industry starts with responsibility at every level.

Our Director, Frank Khalid OBE, has been personally involved in supporting this initiative, working alongside the honey-making team to champion sustainability across the studio.

The WLFS honey has even been shared with members of the creative community, including actor Brett Goldstein, as a small token representing our ongoing commitment to greener practices.

Through initiatives like the WLFS beehives, we continue to take practical steps towards creating the greenest, most eco-friendly and environmentally responsible studio, supporting both the film industry and the natural world around us.
